Agata Szymanek (ur. 1990) – mieszka i pracuje w Mysłowicach. Studiowała malarstwo na Akademii Sztuk Pięknych w Katowicach, gdzie uzyskała stopień doktora. Jej podstawowym medium jest malarstwo, które traktuje jako formę refleksji nad ogromem zjawisk i bodźców kształtujących relacje człowieka z resztą świata ożywionego. Najważniejsze jest dla niej pobudzanie wrażliwości społecznej, nauka odczuwania i rozumienia natury. Tworzy opowieści, których tłem jest złożoność i brak możliwości rozwiązania problemu, jakim jest istnienie człowieka na Ziemi. Inspiracji szuka w starych albumach przyrodniczych i geograficznych. Kolaże będące projektem do pracy artystycznej scala z napotkanych fragmentów/resztek. Ostatecznie projekty przenosi na płótna w dużym formacie.

Swoje prace prezentowała w instytucjach i galeriach takich jak: Hornsey Town Hall Arts Centre (Londyn, UK), BWA Awangarda (Wrocław), Galeria Bielska BWA (Bielsko-Biała), Rondo Sztuki (Katowice), Christmas Steps Gallery (Bristol, UK), Kolonia Artystów (Gdańsk), Muzeum Śląskie (Katowice), DUMBO Arts Festiwal (Nowy York, USA).

Agata Szymanek was born in 1990; she lives and works in Mysłowice, Poland. She studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice where she obtained a doctorate. Her basic medium is painting, which she treats as a form of reflection on the enormity of the phenomena and stimuli shaping human relationships with the rest of the animated world. The most important thing for her is to encourage social sensitivity and to learn how to feel and understand nature. She creates stories whose background has to do with the complexity and inability to solve the problem of human existence on Earth. Szymanek searches for inspiration in old, natural, and geographical albums. Collages, which are projects for artistic work, merge with the fragments and leftovers encountered during the art process. Finally, the projects are transferred onto canvas in a large format.

She presented her works in institutions and galleries such as Hornsey Town Hall Arts Center (London, UK), Bwa Awangarda (Wrocław, Poland), Rondo Sztuki (Katowice, Poland), Christmas Steps Gallery (Bristol, UK), Artists’ Colony (Gdańsk, Poland), Silesian Museum (Katowice, Poland), and Dumbo Arts Festival (New York, USA).
